Friends Of Fin

We are on a mission to spread awareness about the need to save sharks! Over 100 million sharks are killed by humans every year. Some species of sharks have experienced population declines of 90-99% in areas where they were naturally plentiful. Demand for shark fin soup as well as illegal fishing and bycatch have all contributed to sharks being dangerously overfished. Friends Of Fin was created in hopes of furthering peoples understanding that sharks are not scary but an ocean without them would be. The more people we can turn into friendly allies for shark conservation, the better off our oceans will be! To further these efforts, we donate 10% of our net profits to Sharks 4 Kids - an incredible nonprofit on a mission to educate and empower our future generation about the importance of shark conservation. You can help us spread the word by sharing a picture sporting your Friends Of Fin gear and tag @FriendsOfFin on social media with #SharksNeedMoreFriends

 Meet Our Charity Partner

The goal of Sharks4Kids is to create a new generation of shark advocates through access to a dynamic range of educational materials. Curriculum, games and activities will allow teachers to integrate shark education into their science programs on an introductory, intermediate or advanced level. Students can access games, activities and info sheets to satisfy their own curiosity about sharks. Photos and videos from scientists and conservationists bring an exciting element into the classroom and show students the beauty of the ocean.

About Us

Danielle Fortier,

Founder

I cant pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with sharks, all I know is my passion for them has never been stronger. I'm not a Marine Biologist or even a diver (yet), I'm just a Mom of two with a passion for these beautiful creatures and I don't want my children to grow up in a world without sharks. Sharks aren't these "man eating monsters" that the media sometimes portrays them as. In fact, they are actually quite intelligent, polite predators that are crucial to the health of our oceans. Sharks are being killed at an alarming rate, and while its easy for people to support saving animals that are cute and cuddley it can be more challenging to speak up for a predator that many people have a fear of. This is why I created Friends Of Fin with the hope of changing these misguided perceptions about sharks. I hope to help people see the beauty in these animals and hopefully to learn more about them and see them for what they really are not what they have been made out to be. I want to thank all of my supporters for being a Friend Of Fin! #SharksNeedMoreFriends
